New Knack Form Trigger in Make

Hey, this is Andy O’Neil from Weblytica, and I’ve got a quick Knack hack for you. This week, Make released a new trigger for Knack apps.

In the past, you’ve been able to watch for created, updated, or deleted records—but this week they released a brand-new form submission trigger. Let’s take a look at how it works.

Setting Up the New Form Submission Trigger in Make

Over in Make, I’ve created a new scenario. We’re going to click to add a module, select Knack, and go up here to choose the New Event Trigger.

This module now allows you to trigger when:

  • A record is created
  • A record is updated
  • A record is deleted
  • Or when a form is submittedThat’s the new feature!

Click on the module and select Add a hook. Choose your Knack app.

In my case, I’m choosing the Form Submitted event.

Let’s go back and look at our app. The form I’m using lives on a page called Form Page, and the specific view I’m working with is called Add User Assessment. So this trigger will watch that page and that specific form view.

I’m selecting it and hitting Save, then clicking OK.

Testing the Trigger

Let’s run the scenario once in Make and then switch over to my app to test the form. I’ll fill out and submit the form now.

Back in Make, the form data has already come through, and you can see the result of the trigger.

A quick note: in the returned data, there’s a value labeled form ID—but that’s actually the record ID, so there’s a bit of a mislabeling issue in the Make interface.

If you open the output further, you’ll also see the raw form fields that were submitted with the new record.

Wrap-Up

I hope you enjoyed this video and find the new form submission trigger in Make for Knack helpful. It opens up a lot of automation possibilities.

Happy building!
