Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated across four areas:

1 – Problem Solved: Does the app clearly address a need or challenge?

2 – Creativity: Is the approach clever, unique, or inventive?

3 – Execution: Is the app well-structured, intuitive, and functional?

4 – Impact: How useful or valuable is the solution?

We’re looking for thoughtful builds — not just flashy ones.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

  1. Sponsor
    The Knack Builder Season Challenge (“Contest”) is sponsored by Evenly Odd, Inc. d/b/a Knack “Knack”. Knack is referred to as the “Sponsor” in these Official Rules.
  2. Eligibility
    The Contest is open to individuals who: Are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry and agree to these Official Rules. The Contest is open worldwide where permitted by law. No purchase or payment is required to enter or win.
    The following individuals are not eligible: Employees of Sponsor, Immediate family, members of employees, Contractors or agents involved in administration of the Contest.
    Void where prohibited by law.

  3. Contest Period
    The Contest begins on April 1, 2026 and ends on April 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT (“Contest Period”).Entries received after this time will not be considered. Winners are expected to be announced on or around May 20, 2026.

  4. How to Enter
    Participants may enter using one (1) of the following methods.
    Method 1: Knack Build Entry (Preferred Method) Create an application using the Knack platform. Record a video demonstration (maximum 90 seconds). Submit the official entry form at: https://apps.knack.com/ro/builder-challenge-entry
    Method 2: Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE) Participants may enter without using the Knack platform by submitting a concept-based entry, which includes: A written description of the application’s purpose, functionality, and intended users. A visual representation (e.g., sketches, wireframes, mockups, slides, or diagrams). Visuals do not need to be functional or created using any specific software. 

  5. Submission Requirements (All Entries)
    All submissions must include: Participant name, Email address, App name, Description of the app, Explanation of the problem the app solves, A video demonstration (maximum 90 seconds), Either: (a) A link to a working application (Knack entries), or (b) Supporting visual materials (AMOE entries). Limit one (1) entry per participant. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify incomplete or invalid submissions.

  6. Submission Standards
    All submissions must: Be a new app built during the contest period; Be original work of the participant; Not infringe on any third-party rights; Comply with applicable laws and regulations; Not contain unlawful, offensive, or inappropriate material. Knack-built entries must be reasonably accessible for judging at time of review. Participants are responsible for securing any necessary permissions for included content.

  7. Judging Criteria
    This is a skill-based contest. Entries will be evaluated using the following criteria:
    – Problem Solved (25%) – Effectiveness in addressing a real-world problem
    – Creativity (25%) – Innovation and originality
    – Execution (25%) – Quality, usability, clarity, and level of detail. Entries demonstrating functional workflows, interactivity, or a fully realized experience may score higher
    – Impact (25%) – Practical value, scalability, and real-world applicability

    Judging will be based solely on submitted materials. More complete and detailed submissions may enable judges to better evaluate execution and usability. Judges are selected by Sponsor and may include members of product and marketing teams.
    Tie-breaking order: Execution, Creativity, Problem Solved, Impact, Intended audience size (larger audience prevails). All decisions are final and binding.

  8. Prizes:
    First Place: $1,000 USD; Second Place: $500 USD; Third Place: $250 USD; Total ARV: $1,750 USD
    Prizes will be awarded in U.S. dollars in a form determined by Sponsor, which may include cash, electronic transfer (e.g., ACH), or prepaid card. Prizes are non-transferable; Cannot be substituted except at Sponsor’s discretion; May be subject to taxes; Winners are solely responsible for any applicable taxes. Sponsor may require tax documentation.

  9. Winner Notification
    Winners will be notified via email. If a winner: (a) Cannot be contacted; (b) Fails to respond within 7 days; or (c) Declines the prize, Sponsor may select an alternate winner. Prizes will be distributed within approximately 30 days of confirmation.

  10. Publicity Rights
    By entering, participants grant Sponsor the right to: Feature submissions, Share app screenshots and videos, Use names, likenesses, company names, and project details. For promotional, marketing, and editorial purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

  11. Intellectual Property
    Participants retain ownership of their submissions. By entering, participants grant Sponsor a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and promote submissions in connection with the Contest and Knack platform.

  12. Third-Party Materials and Licensing
    Submissions may include third-party materials (e.g., open-source software, APIs, data). Participants are solely responsible for compliance with all applicable licenses and laws. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for third-party materials and may disqualify non-compliant submissions.

  13. Participant Representations and Warranties
    Participants represent and warrant that: (1) They own or have rights to their submission; (2) The submission does not violate any third-party rights; (3) The submission complies with all applicable laws; and (4) The submission contains no unlawful or misleading content.

  14. Indemnification
    Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor and its affiliates from any claims arising from: Their submission; Violation of these rules; Violation of law or third-party rights; Use of the Knack platform.

  15. Platform Dependency
    Knack does not guarantee platform availability or performance. Sponsor is not responsible for: (a) System outages; (b) Data loss; (c) Technical errors. Sponsor is not obligated to maintain or host submitted applications beyond the Contest.

  16. No Purchase Necessary
    No purchase or payment is required to enter or win. Participants may use Knack’s free trial to create an entry. Trial extensions may be requested but are not guaranteed. The Alternative Method of Entry provides a free way to participate without using the platform. All entries are judged using the same criteria.

  17. Disqualification
    Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant who: (a) Violates these rules; (b) Submits false or misleading information; (c) Attempts to manipulate the Contest; (d) Undermines the integrity of the Contest

  18. Limitation of Liability
    Sponsor is not responsible for: Lost, late, or misdirected entries; Technical failures; Unauthorized access; Any damages arising from participation.

  19. Privacy
    Information collected is subject to Knack’s Privacy Policy:

    By entering, participants consent to data use for Contest administration.

  20. Governing Law
    This Contest is governed by the laws of the State of Pennsylvania. All disputes shall be resolved in courts located in Pennsylvania.

  21. Sponsor’s Rights
    Sponsor reserves the right to: Cancel, modify, or suspend the Contest; Substitute prizes; Interpret these rules; Make all final decisions
