Powerful and Affordable HIPAA compliant apps

We're pleased to announce that Knack is now able to offer special HIPAA-compliant plans.

This has been the culmination of much security, policy, and legal work to ensure that our product and infrastructure comply with all HIPAA regulations and recommendations.

What does "HIPAA compliant" mean, anyway?

Hospitals and healthcare providers that work with patients in the United States are bound by specific privacy requirements when it comes to the protected health information (or PHI) of those patients.

We are now compliant with the policies that HIPAA outlines for a product like Knack to be able to securely store that PHI. These include:

• Increased security requirements around encryption, access, and breach mitigation.
• Increased policy requirements for the Knack team on handling and storing PHI data.
• Increased reporting requirements for when any PHI is accessed, and for notifications on any potential breaches of that data.

Along with these general requirements, we can also offer a Business Associate Agreement (or BAA) that legally governs our exact responsibilities for storing your PHI.

So I can build HIPAA Compliant apps now?

Almost! Before moving on to a HIPAA plan, you must sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with us and migrate any existing apps.

Once you are on the HIPAA plan, you can then use Knack to create database applications for storing and managing your protected health information.

This could include:

• EMR/EHR systems - store patient records
• Patient satisfaction - patient surveys & feedback
• Counseling & treatment - patient sessions and notes
• Patient portal - view diagnostics or lab results
• Trials & Research - trial results and analysis
• Training & certification - track compliance
• Billing - pay for services
