How Knack Flows Work

Connect Microsoft Excel with Knack using Knack Flows to automate spreadsheet workflows, synchronize data between systems, and transform spreadsheets into structured database applications. This integration allows you to automatically create, update, and manage spreadsheet rows based on events happening inside your Knack app. You can also pull Excel data into Knack dashboards, automate reporting processes, and convert spreadsheet-based workflows into powerful database-driven systems. Whether you're managing inventory lists, customer records, project trackers, or financial reports, Knack helps turn Excel data into interactive applications and automated workflows.

Select a Trigger

Step 1: Select a Trigger

A trigger is an event that starts your automation workflow. In a Microsoft Excel and Knack integration, triggers can originate in Excel when new rows are added to a spreadsheet. Triggers can also originate in Knack when a new record is created, a record is updated, or a form submission occurs in your application.

Add an Action to the Flow

Step 2: Set up an Action in Knack

Once a trigger occurs, actions execute the tasks inside your Flow. In Knack, actions might include creating records, updating dashboards, assigning statuses, or triggering notifications. In Microsoft Excel, actions include adding rows, updating rows, deleting rows, retrieving rows by number, and maintaining structured spreadsheet data that mirrors your Knack database.

Add More Actions and Automate

Step 3: Connect and Automate

When your Flow is ready, you can activate it immediately or extend it with additional automation steps. Your Excel spreadsheets and Knack database are now synchronized. Spreadsheet updates can automatically update your Knack records, while data generated inside Knack can populate reports, analytics sheets, and operational spreadsheets used across your organization.
