Most of the operational work in a healthcare organization happens outside the EHR. Patient intake, care coordination, referral tracking, compliance reporting — these workflows need structure and flexibility, but EHRs aren’t built to provide it.
Knack Health, on the other hand, was designed from the ground up with that in mind. And now we’re excited to share that our platform connects natively to some of the most prominent EHRs in the healthcare landscape: Epic, athenahealth, and ModMed.
These are the first dedicated healthcare system connectors available on the Knack Health platform, and they join a library of 500+ integrations available through Knack Flows.
Where EHRs Fall Short
EHRs are built for documentation and billing, but not for the operational work that wraps around clinical care and keeps practices running. That includes everything from intake tracking, follow-up coordination, care gap registries, referral management, and discharge checklists.
Instead, most teams handle that work in spreadsheets, inboxes, and shared documents. The data they need lives in the EHR, but getting to it means logging in, running a report, exporting to Excel, and hoping nothing changed by the time the file lands in someone’s inbox. For healthcare teams handling PHI, that process also carries real compliance risk every time data moves between unsecured tools.
Knack Health was built for this problem. Our platform lets healthcare teams build production-ready apps using no-code and AI — apps that run real workflows, handle PHI securely under a signed BAA, and now connect directly to the systems where clinical data already lives.
What Each Connector Does
Epic
The Epic connector uses FHIR R4 to pull ten data types from your Epic environment: patient demographics, appointments, diagnoses and problem lists, medication orders, vital signs, lab results, diagnostic reports, allergies and reactions, immunization history, and insurance coverage.
Intake coordinators can search Epic by name, MRN, or date of birth and pre-populate Knack forms with verified demographics and insurance data — no double entry, no transcription errors. Care managers can pull active conditions and lab results across a patient panel to build care gap registries. Discharge teams can surface medication orders and allergy data in structured checklists without logging into the EHR.
Every app built on this data lives inside Knack Health’s HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. The connection is read-based, authenticated through Epic’s standard FHIR authorization layer, and does not require custom Epic development or MyChart licenses.

Athenahealth
The athenahealth connector integrates with both athenaOne and FHIR APIs to bring scheduling, patient, and appointment data into your Knack apps.
Teams can let staff search live patient records without logging into athenaOne, build scheduling dashboards that pull live appointment availability, and create coordination workflows tied directly to appointment data. Instead of context-switching between systems, staff work from a single operational tool that stays in sync with the EHR. Every app built on athenahealth data runs inside Knack Health’s HIPAA-compliant infrastructure under a signed BAA.

ModMed
The ModMed connector gives operations and clinical support teams the ability to build workflows that react to what’s happening inside the EHR in real time.
Sync patient updates into your operations app automatically, trigger follow-up tasks when encounters are completed, let staff search live patient records and surface diagnostic reports in role-based dashboards — all without asking ModMed to build something custom for your practice. As with every Knack Health connector, the data stays inside a HIPAA-compliant environment with a signed BAA in place.

Workflows That Connect the Whole Operation
Knack Health includes a built-in workflow automation layer called Flows that connects your apps to the tools your team already uses. Flows can fire an invoice in QuickBooks when a billing record is updated, send a Slack alert when a high-priority referral comes in, push a completed intake form to Google Drive, or trigger an outreach sequence when a patient no-shows. All 500+ integrations are available natively inside the platform, with no Zapier account required and no compliance shortcuts.
The EHR connectors and Knack Flows are designed to work together. Pull live patient data from Epic, build a care coordination workflow around it, and automate the handoffs to the other systems your team uses, all inside one HIPAA-compliant platform.

Built for Teams Who Need Speed and Efficiency
Most lean healthcare operations teams need tools they can build, update, and maintain without waiting on a developer. With Knack Health, every connector is configured directly inside the builder, without requiring code or outside developers.
Your team simply needs to set up the connection, configure the app around it, and keep it updated as needs change. Everything runs under a signed BAA, within Knack Health’s HIPAA-compliant infrastructure.
If your team runs on Epic, athenahealth, or ModMed and manages operational workflows outside the EHR, get in touch with us to talk about how Knack Health can help support your goals.
