Build a Maintenance and Inspections App in Knack

Hey there. My name is Dimitri and welcome to another video here at NAC. In this video, we’re gonna be exploring the NAC maintenance and inspections template. I’ll guide you through the features of this very powerful template designed to streamline your maintenance and inspection processes.

Overview of Template Features

It revolutionizes the management of construction projects by offering a seamless solution for performing inspections, ensuring equipment reliability and regulatory compliance. This centralized platform simplifies the processes of tracking maintenance requests, scheduling inspections, and staying compliant. With real-time data updates, the streamlined approach enhances operational efficiency and minimizes risk.

Customization and Flexibility

The template promotes transparency by making task statuses easy to view and fostering accountability. You can tailor it with custom fields and workflows, proactively manage tasks, reduce downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and avoid costly repairs. Access the app from any device, including iPhone, Android, or iPad.

Configuring Data Objects

Click on the data tab to view and customize objects like inspections, maintenance requests, and assets. Edit or add fields such as equipment category, cost, inspector notes, and serial number. You can add new tables like technicians or locations and assign field types accordingly.

User Roles and Permissions Management

Under the users tab, manage roles like admin, technician, inspector, or employee. Set page permissions so roles only view or edit what’s relevant. For example, technicians can update work orders, while inspectors access reports. Adjust permissions on each page as needed.

Creating and Customizing Forms

Add views to maintenance requests and insert forms to allow logged-in users to submit new entries. Customize forms with record rules, submit actions, and conditional formatting. Add previewable forms for tasks like electrical panel fixes, linking them to calendar or grid views.

Automating Workflows

Use page rules to automate confirmations based on status updates. Create form rules to send custom emails when fields like “status” change. Set up tasks for recurring emails like weekly report reminders or technician assignments, and run them to confirm execution.

Testing and Deploying Your App

Before deploying, test the app in the live environment. Log in as different user roles to confirm access and interaction accuracy. Add test records and verify automation triggers. Once satisfied, publish and share the app link.

Conclusion and Next Steps

Congratulations! You’ve successfully built a maintenance and inspection app using Knack. This app will streamline your operations, improve compliance, and keep everything organized in one place. Hit that like button, subscribe, and we’ll see you in the next video.
